Brewer’s Notes and Ingredients
Loosely based on an English porter but spiced up with whole vanilla beans from Madagascar, the Vanilla Porter provides a deep, rich, mocha head with subtle notes of vanilla in the nose. The flavors are sweet chocolates, prices and smooth cream with just a hint of hoppy bitterness. She may be vanilla, but rest assured this is no ordinary porter.
Additional: Whole vanilla beans

It has been excruciatingly hot in San Diego lately, and it seemed like there was no end in sight. Luckily the last two days have been rainy fall weather, putting us in the mood for some satisfying dark ales. Our friend Jim always recommended trying Latitude 33° Brewing Vanilla Porter, so we followed his advice and picked some up.
This porter boasted a very dessert-like aroma. Its sticky sweet confectionary notes ranged from chocolate cake to caramel and toffee, with vanilla layered over the top.
Vanilla Porter poured a delicate covering of mocha colored head that quickly reduced to a thin sheet of froth. This lighter bodied dark ale was a bit sharp up front, but it creamed up on the backside when its carbonation faded away.
Even though Latitude 33° Vanilla Porter was not brewed with coffee, it packed a robust dark roast flavor. A hint of vanilla came on next, followed by the ale’s true finish of dark chocolate and more coffee bitterness that lasted on the palate.
This dark ale packed big flavor, just not enough of the vanilla we were expecting. Don’t get us wrong — it was a great porter, but it left us wanting the vanilla to be as strong in flavor, as it was in aroma.
Vanilla Porter featured a sturdy 6.5% ABV, and who could argue with its wallet friendly $4.99 price tag for a bomber?
Final Score: 3.5/5
Latitude 33° Brewing Vanilla Porter was a solid porter in its own right, but it didn’t deliver as much intense vanilla we were hoping for. But then again, its roastiness and dark chocolate notes were substantial enough to make us want to drink it again.
