Brewer’s Notes and Ingedients
White Hawk Select IPA is a traditional India Pale Ale. We’ve blended American West Coast Cascade Hops with a very generous dose of English Fuggle Hops. This combination makes for a very aromatic character, as well as a truly authentic English flavor which you must taste to believe. “Hopheads” will love this brew!
Hops: American West Coast Cascade Hops, English Fuggle Hops
Artwork: A large white hawk. Consistent with their other bird-themed beer.
Color: Cloudy, almost orange in color.
Aroma: Hoppy IPA notes are missing.

White Hawk IPA belongs to Mendocino Brewing Co’s “The Select Collection”, next to Eye of the Hawk, and Black Hawk Stout.
Based on their notes, Mendocino is trying to pass this India Pale Ale off as “English style”, as well as a “traditional”.
When I hear an IPA described as English, double, or traditional, I expect it to be loaded with hops, as if the beer was supposed to travel from England to India in an un-refigerated barrel, circa 1800’s. But maybe I am envisioning an untrue IPA taste from back then…
Regardless, I found this IPA to be fairly watery, and non-descript for its style.
“Hopheads will love this brew!” – said no hopheads.
Final Score: 2.5/5
This IPA is fairly average, but its one redeeming quality was you do not notice the 7.0% ABV while you drink it. I was not alive in the 1800’s when Englishmen were shipping beer to India, but I don’t think this was the “traditional English flavor” you found back then.
