I'm confused to if he ate all the rice beforehand or only got a bit of rice. Trust me, having those delicious curries with a spoonful (handful as we eat with hands) will not only bring out the flavours more but will make it more addictive and not boring. Having the same strong flavours constantly can be too much so the rice lightens it a little but gives the same addictive flavours.
