Brewer’s Notes and Ingredients
This medium dark beer is layered with rich malty aromas and flavors of chocolate, caramel, brown sugar, and a hint of vanilla. Although it may be dark in color, it’s refreshingly smooth and highly sessionable. Mudslinger Brown Ale is the perfect beer for spring.
First Impressions
Artwork: Artwork is supposed to look action sports themed with muddy tire prints, but dark green label was used instead of brown “mud”.
Color: Brown in color, but not overly dark.
Aroma: Slight nutty aroma.
The Tasting
Arrived in: Bottle
Served in: Redhook tasting glass
I have drank several of these, and unfortunately like Mudlslinger Brown Ale less than the first time I tried it.
Mudslinger has a balanced taste – not overly nutty or bitter, as some brown ales can be.
This is a medium bodied brown, and I failed to pick up the chocolate, caramel, and brown sugar flavors, as referenced in the brewer‘s notes. The consistency is just too light to pack that kind of a punch, but I did notice the ”hint of vanilla” more than anything at the end of each sip.
It may not sound like it, but I actually enjoyed this beer, especially since I don’t drink brown ales all that often.
Final Score: 3/5
I was expecting deeper flavors, but Mudslinger Brown Ale’s balanced consistency made up for its only shortcoming. If you’re looking for a well-rounded brown ale, give this one a try.
